KRUISHERENHOTEL MAASTRICHT - OOSTWEGEL COLLECTION, MEMBER OF DESIGN HOTELS, Maastricht – A Smart Stay in the City
About the Hotel
Historic Design Hotel
Kruisherenhotel Maastricht is a five-star design hotel set in a 15th-century monastery and Gothic church in Maastricht's historic center. The interiors, designed by Henk Vos and Philippe Starck, blend historic architecture with contemporary elements. The property includes 60 guestrooms and suites spread across the original monastery, Casa Nova, and Gatekeeper's Residence.
Rooms & Suites
Rooms feature custom-made Auping king-size or twin beds, workstations, and sleek en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers or bathtubs. The Kruisherensuite includes a whirlpool bath and double rainfall shower. Some rooms have connecting doors for families. The hotel is wheelchair accessible, though a few rooms have steep staircases due to the historic structure.
Dining & Wine
Spencer's Restaurant serves French-inspired dishes with regional twists in a mezzanine setting overlooking the Gothic chancel. The Wine Bar Rouge & Blanc offers a selection of vintages in a glass-vaulted cellar. Guests can also dine al fresco in the quadrangle terrace or enjoy a six-course menu at Château Neercanne, a short drive away.
Location & Access
The hotel is a 20-minute walk from Maastricht's city center, near landmarks like Fort Sint Pieter (2 km) and Bonnefantenmuseum (2 km). It serves as a base to explore nearby towns like Aachen, Hasselt, and Liège. Valet parking costs €45 per night, and four electric car charging stations are available for €12 per session.
Events & Services
The hotel hosts weddings, private dinners, and meetings in unique spaces like the glass-wrapped Leonardo's room or the Inner Courtyard. Spencer's Bar serves cocktails and light bites, with outdoor seating in warmer months. The hotel offers tailored menus for dietary preferences and can arrange exclusive use for events of up to 200 guests.

Guest Ratings & Reviews
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a very friendly concierge who showed us to our room. The rooms were well-equipped with all the amenities I could have asked for, featuring a cozy bed and plenty of space. However, the location was a bit noisy, although it was stunning and close to the Vrijthof Square. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff and a thoughtful welcome present, though the dining experience was not the best considering the hotel's rating. The facilities were impressive, especially the former church dining area.
Staying at this hotel was like experiencing the perfect blend of modern comfort in a medieval setting. The rooms are nice and interesting, with a tiny window offering a unique view, but the steep and dangerous stairs within the room close to the bathroom can be a challenge. The service was extraordinary, both before and during my stay, with the hotel staff going out of their way to assist and even surprising me with a little present. The location couldn't have been better; it's super close to everything, and the atmosphere in the old church mezzanine adds a special charm. Dining was superb with a splendid decor, though a wider selection of foods would have been appreciated. The facilities were top-notch and well-kept, enhancing the overall experience.
The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the area, very nice for families with kids, but the room we had was small and a bit dark due to small windows. The service was top-notch, with special treats for the little ones. The dining experience was excellent, with a buffet that impressed, though missing some condiments. Overall, a great choice for a stay.
